Having a conviction can cause some issues for foreign travel depending on what your chosen destination is. Niacro has compiled a series of guides to give you an idea of the rules around the world. This guide relates to entry into the EU under the new ETIAS system.
Under new rules, visitors from a list of non-EU countries, including the UK, will need to apply for a waiver, similar to a US ESTA, before travelling to 30 countries in Europe.
The waiver will cover travel to the Schengen area, which includes every EU state except for Ireland and Cyprus, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
If you were born in Northern Ireland, you are entitled to hold both a British Passport AND an Irish Passport. We would recommend that anyone who this rule applies to should hold both passports. Having an Irish Passport guarantees freedom of movement in the EU and also means that the ETIAS scheme will not apply to you.
While our guides are not exhaustive, they will give you a starting point for further research you can carry on in your own time. We list the sources we used and have provided links to these to enable you to carry out your own research.
